We all aspire to have, work for, and buy a few items of luxury at some point in our lives.
A recent study by Statista outlined the top luxury fashion brands in the United States. Utilizing Google Trends Search Interest Scores, BetVirginia.com - typically home to all things Virginia sports betting - was able to determine how these brands rank within The Old Dominion State.
Here is the best of the best in the state.
Florence, Italy-based and 103-year-old Gucci edged out Paris, France-based Dior, 50-49, to rank No. 1 in Virginia. Four of the five brands listed all were within one point of each other in a very close search, signaling that state residents are serious about their luxury fashion tastes.
Gucci merchandise, which took in $66.675 billion in its most recent year-end data (2020), features leather goods, handbags, luggage, jewelry, watches, eyewear and more. There are two Gucci stores in the state in the cities of McLean and Tysons Corner.
Dior, which has one store in McLean, took in $6.097 billion in worldwide overall company sales in its most recent year-end data (also 2020).
Neuilly-sur-Seine, France-based Chanel (47), another Paris company Louis Vuitton (38) and one more Paris-based Yves Saint Laurent (also 38) completed the top five.
According to a November 2023 study conducted by Capital One Shopping Research, retail sales dollars in the state increased 3.1% in 2022.
Excluding sole proprietorships, Virginia is home to 14,537 local retailers and the average local retailer in the state made an estimated $6.60 million in annual sales in 2022. For every local retailer, 469 consumers live in Virginia.
