Update: Denny Hamlin won the Spring Richmond race after beating JGR teammate Martin Truex Jr. on a late-race restart. The win was Hamlins' second of the season. With the NASCAR Cup Series on a two-week hiatus, you can check out options for Paris Olympics betting. When odds become available for the August 11 Richmond race they'll be updated here.
The NASCAR Cup Series rolls on with its 2024 season at some interesting venues. The top stock car series put in some twists when it announced this year’s schedule: The first Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway, a second turn on a street circuit in downtown Chicago, and a return for the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval after NASCAR tried racing on Indy’s road course for the past three years.
But Virginia’s own Richmond Raceway provides stability, plus a whole lot of Virginia sports betting opportunities.
The NASCAR Cup Series raced at Richmond on March 31 and will return August 11 for the Cook Out 400. Here’s a look at last year’s odds for the race and how the favorites fared:
Driver | 2023 Pre-Race Odds | 2023 Finish |
Martin Truex Jr. | +400 | 7th |
Denny Hamlin | +600 | 2nd |
Kyle Larson | +600 | 19th |
Christopher Bell | +700 | 20th |
William Byron | +800 | 21st |
Kevin Harvick | +900 | 10th |
Joey Logano | +1200 | 4th |
Kyle Busch | +1200 | 3rd |
Chase Elliott | +1400 | 13th |
Ross Chastain | +1600 | 24th |
Ryan Blaney | +2000 | 14th |
DraftKings Virginia Sportsbook odds for the 2024 Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway will be released the week of the race, which is on August 11.
Last year, Chris Buescher pulled off an upset when he won the fall race for Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing at Richmond. It was only his third-career Cup Series victory, but it catapulted him into a career year. Buescher went on to win two more times in 2023 and finished a career-best seventh in points.
Buescher went off at +6000 odds to win before last year’s August race at Richmond, a wager that paid off handsomely for anybody who backed him at Virginia sportsbook apps.

Richmond has been one of the most venerable venues in NASCAR since the Cup Series first raced there in 1953. The King, Richard Petty, is the all-time leader in wins at Richmond with 15, followed by Bobby Allison with seven.
Two current drivers are knocking on the door to tie Allison for second in career Richmond wins: Kyle Busch (with six victories on the 0.75-mile oval) and Denny Hamlin (five). Hamlin is the one we’ll focus on here because the Joe Gibbs Racing driver has dominated Richmond in recent years.
Hamlin was born in Florida but he has called Virginia home since he was a small child. Richmond is pretty much his home track and he has owned it like a home since 2021. During the track’s seven races in that span, Hamlin has recorded two wins and six top-five finishes. He has also run second three times in that span so, if you like Hamlin but are looking to hedge for NASCAR betting purposes, a top-3 line on Hamlin might return decent value.
His JGR teammate, Martin Truex Jr., also owns a win and six top-10 finishes in the past seven races at Richmond. Penske Racing’s Joey Logano has six top-10 runs in that span but no victories; ditto for JGR’s Christopher Bell.
