This Sunday is the second short-track race of the NASCAR Cup season, taking place at Richmond Raceway with the Toyota Owners 400.
For Virginia sports betting, this is a chance to wager on a NASCAR odds close to home. It’s a Sunday night race too, which means that the Cup Series will have a good chance to be in the spotlight.
Denny Hamlin, who won the short-track race at Bristol on March 17, heads into Sunday’s Toyota Owners 400 as the co-favorite along with his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Christopher Bell. They both have +425 odds at DraftKings as of Tuesday morning. Bell won this season at Phoenix on March 10.
Gibbs is clearly the team to beat, according to the oddsmakers, as the team’s other two drivers complete the top four – Martin Truex Jr. is at +600 odds and Ty Gibbs, who still seeks his first victory in NASCAR’s top series, is +850.
The first Chevrolet on the board is Kyle Larson at +900, followed by his Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron and the RFK Racing Ford of Chris Buescher, both at +1100. Byron won last week at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, his second victory this season after the Daytona 500.
These DraftKings Virginia Sportsbook odds for the 2024 Toyota Owners 400 are as of March 26 (subject to change).
The list of top drivers at Richmond since February 2021 is dominated by one team: Joe Gibbs Racing. This event is even more special for JGR because it is the flagship team for Toyota’s NASCAR Cup series program, and the manufacturer is the primary sponsor for this race.
Hamlin, who was born in Florida but raised in Virginia, has had the best average finish in the past six Richmond races, at 5.2, including a victory in the 2022 fall race. He no doubt has paid off home-state backers at Virginia sportsbook apps recently.
Truex Jr. has the second-best recent average at Richmond at 5.8 over the past six Cup races, including a win in the 2021 fall race. Another JGR driver, Bell, is third on the list at 6.5, though he has not yet won at the 0.75-mile oval.

The NASCAR Cup Series event, the Toyota Owners 400, takes place at Richmond Raceway at 7 p.m. Eastern on March 31, 2024. The second Richmond race in 2024 will take place August 11.
The most recent winner in Richmond was Chris Buescher last July in the Cook Out 400. It was Buescher's third win in the NASCAR Cup Series and made him the eighth straight different winner at Richmond Raceway.
The Toyota Owners 400 will be 400 laps around the 0.75-mile track for a total of 300 miles. The race will once again feature three segments (laps per stage) – Stage 1: 70 laps, Stage 2: 160 laps, Stage 3: 170 laps. The race on average takes just over three hours.
NASCAR returns to Richmond, Virginia, again for this season on March 31 for the Toyota Owners 400. NASCAR will also return to Richmond Raceway later in the season for the Cook Out 400 on Aug. 11, 2024.
