The 2024 Paris Games, which get underway this week, feature a new sport: The American dance form known as breakdancing. The craze debuted in The Bronx with the dawn of hip-hop music in the 1980s. But breakdancing has since transitioned into the mainstream of the world’s zeitgeist.

During these Summer Olympics, breakdancing will be a medal event for the first time.
