Betr on Wednesday announced it has started taking wagers for Virginia sports betting. At the same time, the sports gaming and media company rolled out a new product on its sports betting platform.

The commonwealth is the third state for the sportsbook started a year ago by Joey Levy and Jake Paul, joining Massachusetts and Ohio. While Betr launched focusing on microbetting, or in-game betting, it has branched out to include more traditional sports betting fare like point spreads, moneylines and totals.

Virginia’s launch also coincides with the start of the NFL regular season, which is typically when sportsbooks report the most traffic. The first week of the regular season starts Thursday with the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs facing the Detroit Lions; VA sports betting apps can expect heavy action.

“The state has a dynamic fan base across both collegiate and professional sports, and we are excited to introduce our differentiated product experience to this market while continuing to bring our leadership in responsible gaming to Virginia, just as we have done in other jurisdictions,” said Levy, Betr’s co-founder and CEO.

Microbetting Parlay Offering Available

With the launch in Virginia, Betr also announced it will offer its Scripts product in that state. Scripts pairs in-game wagering with parlays so bettors can combine microbets into one wager. For example, in baseball, bettors could wager whether a team scores a run, has a batter strike out and sends more than 4.5 batters to the plate in the same inning.

As with any parlay, all legs of the wager must win to payout. While it’s a riskier wager, it also offers a higher payout from operators, many of whom offer Virginia sportsbook promos.

Wednesday’s launch is also the final one for Betr under its initial platform. Four months ago, the company purchased the Chameleon platform from FansUnite Entertainment. Based on that acquisition, Betr is working on a new online sports betting platform, which it expects to launch in its existing markets and new states next year.

More About Betr Sportsbook

Betr generated a lot of attention in August 2022 when Levy and Paul announced they had raised $50 million to start the new venture. Levy brought experience from the gaming realm, having co-founded microbetting engine Simplebet.

Paul, a well-known social media influencer and professional fighter, helps provide the content development for Betr’s social media platforms. The plan is for Betr to acquire customers through its social media offerings. In just more than a year, it has attracted more than 1.6 million followers on its channels, created 1.6 billion impressions and generated 84 million engagements. Others providing content for Betr include the Cavinder twins — Hanna and Haley, both former University of Miami basketball players — and Marco Piemonte, also known as “Million Dollar Marco.”

Betr is also branching out into other aspects of sports gaming. Besides its sports betting app, it announced earlier this summer the creation of Betr Picks, a daily fantasy pick ‘em site available for real-money play in 24 other states.
